A place to slow down, connect, and step just outside the ordinary
Just a few steps from the cathedral of Notre-Dame de Chartres, this house is said to date from the early 13th century. A UNESCO plaque on the corner marks the site of a medieval gate that once protected the cathedral’s cloister.

Over time, the house has been restored and reimagined across its four levels, along with a separate guest house across the courtyard. Each floor offers a distinct atmosphere —medieval, Renaissance, 18th-century French, and 1930s art deco — creating a quiet progression through time — and through mood.
During your stay, everything is within easy walking distance — cafés, bistrots, shops, and the rhythm of a small French town. The cathedral, with its stained glass and labyrinth, is just moments away.
Paris is only an hour away by train — close enough for a day, far enough to leave behind.
It’s an invitation to feel free — to be who you are, among men who understand the same language without needing to explain it.
Think of your stay as less like a hotel and more like being welcomed into a private home — personal, intimate, and deliberately unlike anything found on booking platforms. You’ll be surrounded by antiques, original art, books, and objects with history.
Some guests come to slow down. Others come to explore, to connect, to indulge, or just to feel different for a while.
The house is naturist by default. You can arrive, undress, and simply exist as you are. There is an openness here — of atmosphere, of possibility.
Nothing required, nothing expected, everything possible.
A BDSM-friendly sensibility exists for those who seek it, always optional, always grounded in mutual respect.
For some men, a stay at Maison aux Herbes becomes more than accommodation.
The house occasionally welcomes immersive hosted stays and other private experiences by prior discussion.
Bookings are handled directly and discreetly. Maison aux Herbes is not publicly listed and is open only to those intentionally seeking this kind of experience.
Preferred stays are generally three nights or longer, allowing the atmosphere and rhythm of the house to unfold naturally, though flexibility is sometimes possible depending on dates and availability.

The house reflects the person who created it.

A single gay man who opens his home to like-minded men from around the world.
Relaxed, open-minded, and at ease, I’ve created a space shaped around freedom, comfort, and a shared understanding. Naturist by nature, I value simple pleasures — good conversation, good energy, and an atmosphere where people can be fully themselves.
It’s a place to unwind, connect, and explore at your own rhythm.
Originally from the United States and now based in France, I speak English and French.
“Somehow it felt less like escape and more like recognition.”

The ground floor welcomes guests with a masculine, medieval atmosphere — stone, shadow, and warmth.
It is a space for gathering: wine, food, conversation, music, and shared moments, whether social or more intimate.
Its most unexpected feature: a medieval-style toilet.

The first floor evokes the atmosphere of the late Renaissance, where craftsmanship and symbolism shape every detail.
A concealed kitchen lies behind a paneled wall — revealed by turning a coat hook.
Original art and 17th-century furnishings define the atmosphere, from a Louis XIII bed to a hand-carved marble fireplace. Subtle carvings on the marriage bed and strongbox chest suggest themes of fertility and abundance.
A curated collection of ceramics and sculpture, inspired by the secret cabinet of Naples’ archaeological museum, adds a discreet layer of sensuality.
Two doors open onto a balcony overlooking the courtyard.

The second floor offers a refined, salon-like atmosphere — calm, elegant, and quietly expansive.
A generous living area with fireplace, books, and classic furnishings invites conversation, reading, or simply being at ease. The bed continues this sense of comfort, combining softness with historical character.
Behind the paneling, concealed doors lead to the kitchen and bathroom, integrated seamlessly into the architecture.
Light, proportion, and carefully-chosen objects create a space that feels both cultivated and relaxed.
This is a place for conversation that lingers.

The top floor offers a more private, retreat-like atmosphere — quiet, self-contained, and gently removed from the rest of the house.
With its own sitting area, bedroom, and practical amenities, it provides a sense of independence while maintaining the character of the building.
Natural light and warm textures create a space that invites rest, reflection, and stillness.
Rates from €140 per night

Set across the courtyard with its own private entrance, the guest house offers a more open and contemporary atmosphere.
Lighter in style and more independent in feel, it provides a contrast to the layered character of the main house while remaining part of the same experience. Large windows face the main building. Whether you keep things discreet or let your exhibitionist streak take over is entirely your choice.
It is a space for those who prefer a degree of separation, while still being connected.
